§ 47. Mr. ASTORasked whether His Majesty's Government will reconsider their previous replies to the President of the United States' invitation to participate in the Panama-Pacific Exposition at San Francisco in 1915; and whether they can now see their way to accepting that invitation?
§ Dr. CHAPPLEBefore the right hon. Gentleman answers the question, may I ask whether he is aware that a memorial to him on this matter has been signed by 170 Members, and is likely to be signed by more than half the Members of the House; and whether, if his answer is likely to be unfavourable, he will defer it until the memorial reaches him?
§ The PRIME MINISTERWhen the memorial comes it will receive most respectful consideration, but in the meantime, in answer to the question, I have to say that His Majesty's Government have recently reconsidered the matter, and I regret they do not feel able to modify their previous decision.
