HC Deb 12 February 1914 vol 58 c320
35. Mr. HARRY HOPE

asked whether members of insurance committees now receive payments towards defraying the cost of their travelling expenses and for a subsistence allowance; and, if so, how many persons are now entitled to receive such payment; and what is the estimate of the total expenditure to be thereby incurred?

Mr. BENN

Schemes for the payment of subsistence allowances under Section 31 of the National Insurance Act, 1913, have been submitted by a number of insurance committees, and are now receiving consideration. Payment of travelling expenses under Section 61 of the principal Act is being made in a number of insurance committee areas, but my right hon. Friend has no information as to the number of the recipients. The estimated annual cost of the travelling expenses authorised is approximately £7,300.
