HC Deb 12 February 1914 vol 58 cc315-6
25. Mr. BRIDGEMAN

asked when the report of the Departmental Committee appointed to consider the question of the pension of those teachers who retired prior to 1911–12 will be presented to the House?

Mr. PEASE

The Departmental Committee appointed to inquire into certain questions relating to the pensions of elementary school teachers has not yet reported. I understand that it has not yet received the Report of the Actuaries, upon which all other questions referred to it were dependent, but I am informed that this report will be in the hands of the Committee in the course of a few days.

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

Can the right hon. Gentleman say why the Actuaries' Report has been delayed?

Mr. PEASE

It does seem to me that the actuaries have taken a rather prolonged period in order to obtain the figures necessary for the Committee. At the same time, I do not desire to reflect upon them in any way. They have carried out their work, and are now in a position to report.
