HC Deb 04 August 1914 vol 65 cc1898-9
23. Mr. COWAN

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether, in view of the continually growing demand of Scottish farm-servants for a weekly half-holiday, and having regard to the national importance of the industry in which they are engaged, he will take immediate steps for the appointment of a Departmental Committee to investigate the conditions under which such holidays may be instituted with the minimum of disturbance to the operations of farmers and breeders of stock and with instructions to such committee to report at the earliest possible date?

The SECRETARY for SCOTLAND (Mr. McKinnon Wood)

I am unable to make any promise on the subject at present.
