HC Deb 04 August 1914 vol 65 cc1902-3
42. Mr. BUTCHER

asked the Home Secretary the number of mines and the number of animals employed in mines which were inspected in 1913 by special inspectors of horses in the Northern Division (No. 2) and in the Midland and Southern Division (No. 6), respectively; and whether he will give instructions that in future particulars as to the numbers of mines and of animals inspected shall be included in all reports of His Majesty's inspectors of mines?

Mr. McKENNA

The figures for the Northern Division are given by the inspector in his report, namely, 264 mines and over 15,000 horses. The figures for the Midland and Southern Division are 307 mines and 6,145 horses. The inspectors will be asked to see that the figures in question are included in all future reports.

Mr. BUTCHER

In view of the figures that have come out in the report of the inspectors, will the right hon. Gentleman appoint additional horse inspectors?

Mr. McKENNA

I would not like to make a reply to the hon. Gentleman now.
