HC Deb 03 August 1914 vol 65 cc1791-2
16. Mr. BRIDGEMAN

asked the President of the Board of Education if the House is to understand that he has entirely abandoned the idea of improving the pensions of elementary school teachers who retired before 1912?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. J. A. Pease)

I must refer the hon. Member to the answer given by the Prime Minister to the Member for Wells on 21st July.

17. Mr. BRIDGEMAN

asked the President of the Board of Education if it is proposed to give Grants towards the loan charges of education authorities up to the extent of two-fifths of those charges; and if he intends, in order to carry this out, to repeal Section 96 of the Elementary Education Act, 1870?

Mr. PEASE

The effect of the proposed "block" Grant for elementary education would be as suggested in the first part of the question. With regard to the second part of the question, I cannot anticipate the details of legislation to be introduced next Session.
