Lord ALEXANDER THYNNEasked the President of the Local Government Board whether, in view of the number of resolutions passed by local authorities urging the necessity for further legislation to reduce the amount of smoke emitted by chimneys and furnaces, it is the intention of His Majesty's Government to afford the House an opportunity of discussing the question at an early date?

The names of the members will be announced in a few days. In the circumstances it does not appear necessary to take the course suggested by the Noble Lord.
