HC Deb 27 April 1914 vol 61 c1316
39. Mr. HACKETT

asked the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture (Ireland) whether he can state what steps have been taken to comply with the-request of public bodies in Thurles, county Tipperary, to have the pig market opened; and whether the Department will allow a market to be held on Thursday, 30th instant, for fat pigs, to be conveyed in special wagons to Limerick and Waterford for immediate slaughter?

Mr. RUSSELL

The Department have given careful consideration to the request of the public bodies in Thurles, but as outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease have recently occurred in the town and district, it is regretted the holding of a pig market on 30th instant cannot be sanctioned.
