HC Deb 27 April 1914 vol 61 c1316
36. Sir JOHN SPEAR

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if arrangements have been made, or are contemplated, for the Admiralty to take over the fixed defences of all ports on the British coast, so-far as fortifications are concerned, and the Royal Garrison Artillery become a semi naval force, having much the much organisation as the Royal Marines?

Dr. MACNAMARA

Various proposals have been considered in connection with the recent inquiry by the Committee of Imperial Defence into the question of oversea attack, but no decision has been come to in the sense of the hon. Member's question.
