HC Deb 27 April 1914 vol 61 c1347
51. Sir WILLIAM BYLES

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been drawn to the formation of rebel troops in and around Belfast with nightly drillings and the distribution of arms; and whether, in order to safeguard the allegiance of His Majesty's subjects and to free the Members of this House from intimidation in passing such laws as they believe to be for the good of the country, the Government will now take firm steps to put an end to the proceedings referred to?

The PRIME MINISTER

I do not think that the proceedings referred to are likely to have the effect suggested by my hon. Friend. The Government are quite alive to the seriousness of the situation which has now been created.
