HC Deb 27 April 1914 vol 61 cc1309-10
12. Mr. DUNDAS WHITE

asked what was the total amount of beer, as defined in the Hop Substitutes Bill, brewed in Scotland in the years 1911, 1912, and 1913, respectively; what was the total amount of Scottish-brewed beer exported from the United Kingdom in each of these years; and whether any hops for brewing are grown in Scotland, and, if so, where?

Mr. HERBERT LEWIS

I am informed that the quantity of beer brewed in Scotland during the last three years was as follows:—

Year. No. of Barrels.
1911 2,142,779
1912 2,122,447
1913 2,270,451
I regret that I am unable to give the particulars asked for in the second part of the question. So far as the Board are aware, no hops for brewing are grown in Scotland.

13. Mr. DUNDAS WHITE

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he is prepared to exclude Scotland from the scope of the Hop Substitutes Bill?

Mr. HERBERT LEWIS

The Board are not aware of any reason for excluding Scotland from the scope of the Bill.
