HC Deb 23 April 1914 vol 61 cc1099-100
53. Mr. WORTH1NGTON EVANS

asked the Prime Minister which of the recommendations made by Mr. Tennant for improving the position of non-commissioned officers and men married off the strength in the Army the Government propose to adopt; and how many non-commissioned officers and men will be benefited thereby?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. H. J. Tennant)

As the hon. Member was informed on Tuesday, no statement can at present be made on this subject.

Mr. WORTHINGTON EVANS

Does the Government throw over this promise made by the late Secretary of State for War also?

Mr. TENNANT

No; I think the hon. Member is unreasonable in this matter. It is impossible for the right hon. Gentleman in undertaking the duties of the War Office to settle everything at once.

Mr. WORTHINGTON EVANS

Will the right hon. Gentleman's attention be called to it?

Mr. TENNANT

Yes
