HC Deb 23 April 1914 vol 61 c1107
17. Mr. NEWMAN

asked the Chief Secretary whether his attention has been drawn to a resolution passed by the Roscommon County Board of the Ancient Order of Hibernians that the representatives of Ulster firms doing business in the West of Ireland must be boycotted until a permanent change in their attitude towards the Government of Ireland Bill is shown by the heads of such firms in Ulster; and whether he will consult the Law Officers of the Irish Government as to whether such a resolution is a violation of the Corrupt Practices Act?

Mr. BIRRELL

I have seen a newspaper report of the resolution referred to. I am advised that assuming the authenticity of the resolution it cannot be said that it comes under any of the provisions of the Statute quoted by the hon. Member.
