HC Deb 21 April 1914 vol 61 c749
38. Mr. DUNDAS WHITE

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will consider the advisability of consolidating the Weights and Measures Acts and the Orders made thereunder?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Robertson)

The law relating to weights and measures was consolidated by the Weights and Measures Act, 1878. Since then there have been some additions and amendments to the general law relating to the subject, and a Select Committee is now considering whether any further provisions for protecting purchasers of goods from short weight or measures are desirable. Should that Committee recommend legislation, the question of consolidating as well as amending the existing law will be considered.

Mr. DUNDAS WHITE

How many Acts have been passed and how many Orders have come into force since 1878?

Mr. ROBERTSON

I must ask for notice. I have not the details.
