HC Deb 21 April 1914 vol 61 cc739-40
24. Major HOPE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Departmental Committee on Local Taxation has yet commenced to take evidence in Scotland?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

The answer is in the negative.

Major HOPE

Is there any special reason for this continued procrastination and delay, and will not Scottish interests be adversely affected in regard to local taxation in consequence of this delay?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I can assure the hon. and gallant Gentleman that the interests of Scotland will be well looked after.

Major HOPE

Why cannot the Committee commence to take Scottish evidence? I understand they have been doing nothing for three months?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

We certainly cannot wait for the Report of the Committee on the Scottish case before we take-action.

Sir G. YOUNGER

If there are any Grants given to England, will the right hon. Gentleman take good care to see that equivalent Grants are given to Scotland?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I think that-Scottish Members will see to that.
