HC Deb 21 April 1914 vol 61 c751
50. Colonel YATE

asked the Secretary of State for War how many clerks are employed in the Army Ordnance Department at Island Bridge, Dublin; how many of these are serving soldiers; how many ex-soldiers; how many civilians; and whether any of the work required of the clerical staff is of such a nature that it could not be performed by soldiers or ex-soldiers?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Tennant)

There are thirty-seven clerks employed, of whom twenty-two are serving soldiers, twelve ex-soldiers, reservists or pensioners, and three civilians. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative. Preference is given, in the selection of these clerks, to men who have served with credit in the Army or Navy.
