HC Deb 06 April 1914 vol 60 cc1606-7
61. Mr. GOLDSTONE

asked the Postmaster-General whether the successful candidate for the sub-postmastership of Lesbury, Northumberland, will be allowed the tenancy of the premises at present used for postal business; whether he is aware that an important distributing mail arrives at Lesbury at so early an hour as 4.15 a.m.; and, in view of the lonely situation and the safety of the mails, will he consider the appointment of a sub-postmaster?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

Applications for this vacant office are now being invited, and in making the appointment due regard will be paid to the circumstances referred to by the hon Member. I may mention, however, that the duties of the office have been satisfactorily conducted by a woman for more than twenty years past.
