HC Deb 29 May 1913 vol 53 cc314-5
36. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the Law Officers did no legal business for the Post Office in the year 1912–13; will he say how many years it is since this occurred before with that Department; and if he will account for this unusual occurrence?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Herbert Samuel)

The hon. Member is under a misapprehension. During the year 1912–13 the Law Officers appeared for the Post Office in the Telephone Arbitration, and their opinion was sought by the Post Office in various other matters of a non-contentious character.

Mr. GINNELL

Will the right hon. Gentleman explain why no extra charges appear in this particular year, while they do in other years?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

The fees have not been settled.
