HC Deb 29 May 1913 vol 53 c315
37. Mr. JAMES HOGGE

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will consider the possibility of refusing to transmit any letters from Great Britain to ascertained addresses of firms dealing in sweepstakes and other gambling competitions?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

As I stated, in reply to the hon. Member's similar question of the 8th April, I am considering this subject, but I am afraid that I am still not in a position to make a statement. The course suggested in the question would in any case need legislation.

Mr. HOGGE

Will the right hon. Gentleman be able to say anything this Session?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

I cannot give a definite promise, but the matter is now actively engaging consideration.
