76. Mr. JOHN WARD

asked whether an agreement was recently signed between the Edinburgh Master Builders' and Contractors' Association and the Navvies' and Builders' Labourers' Union fixing the minimum rate of wages for the Edinburgh and Leith district for navvies and labourers at 6d. per hour as from 1st June next; and whether he will give instructions to the contractors at Redford Barracks to observe this agreement in accordance with the' Fair-Wage Resolution of the House of Commons?

There is no information at the War Office as to any such agreement. If my hon. Friend will kindly furnish me with a copy the matter shall be considered.

May I ask if the War Office will promise not to have any communication or allow the Admiralty to be influenced in any way in giving their decision?

Mr. TENNANT

I am not aware they have any decision to give.
