HC Deb 29 May 1913 vol 53 c306
18. Mr. JAMES HOGGE

asked when it is proposed to issue the conditions of the open competition for the new Government offices in Edinburgh; whether any money has been taken in the Estimates for the year for the purposes of this competition; if so, how much; and how many and which offices it is proposed to accommodate in those buildings?

Mr. WEDGWODO BENN

The First Commissioner is not yet in a position to make any statement regarding the date of the issue of the conditions for the proposed competition for the new Government offices, Edinburgh. No money was included in this year's Estimates for the purpose.

Mr. J. HOGGE

How is it possible to have this competition and an offer of money prizes when no money has been taken?

Mr. BENN

There is no money in this year's Estimates for the buildings, and there does not seem to be any particular urgency about having the competition settled.

Mr. J. HOGGE

May we take it for granted that the competition will not be proceeded with this year?

Mr. BENN

Oh no, Sir.
