asked what is the amount of the original indemnity claimed by Great Britain from China owing to the Boxer troubles; how much of it has been paid off up to date; how much is still owing; and whether the instalments are being maintained, and the amounts paid by each instalment?

Mr. ACLAND

The total indemnity claimed by Great Britain amounted to £7,593,081 15s. Of this sum £199,259 12s. 7d. has been paid, leaving £7,393,822 2s. 5d. still owing. The instalments are now twelve months in arrear. The amount of each monthly instalment is £27,980 18s. 7d.
