HC Deb 06 May 1913 vol 52 c1841
33. Mr. CASSEL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is taking any and, if so, what steps to determine the basis on which the half-share of the Land Duties is to be distributed amongst the local authorities as from the 31st March, 1914?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Lloyd George)

The Government do not consider that the time has yet arrived for taking action as suggested in the question.

Mr. CASSEL

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that under the Revenue Act, 1911, there must be legislation upon this subject next Session, and that it will take a considerable time to ascertain the views of the local authorities?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I do not believe there will be much doubt about the views of the local authorities upon the subject. They have already expressed them.
