§ 24. Mr. BARNESasked whether there is any Minute of the Education Board reducing the size of classes in elementary schools; and, if so, whether the Minute is being put into effect?
Mr. McKINNON WOODThe Minute referred to in the question is that dated 27th March, 1911, a copy of which I am sending to the hon. Member. The operation of the Minute is at present suspended until 1st August, and in view of representations which have been received its suspension will be continued for a further period of one year from that date.
§ Mr. BARNESCan the right hon. Gentleman give any reason for this suspension?
Mr. McKINNON WOODThere have been representations as to the financial hardship. That is the line taken by the school board and others interested in education in Scotland. I hope that a good deal of the work will be done without cost to the local authority.
