HC Deb 20 March 1913 vol 50 cc1186-7
9. Mr. CRUMLEY

asked the Chief Secretary if his attention has been called to a resolution passed by the council of the county of Fermanagh, pointing out that the deficit in the capitation Grant towards the cost of lunatics in county Fermanagh in respect of the three financial years ended 31st March, 1912, amounted to £943 15s. 6d.; and whether the Government intend to pay this sum to the county council and to have full capitation Grants allowed in future?

Mr. RUSSELL

The resolution referred to has been received. The amount of the deficit is £908. As already stated the whole question of local taxation is under the consideration of the local taxation committee, and it is not possible to make any statement on the subject at present.

Mr. FLAVIN

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the question of local taxation affects the condition of Ireland and that many counties have lost as much as £7,000?

Mr. RUSSELL

It is not possible to make any statement.

Mr. FLAVIN

Will the right hon. Gentleman make representations to the Chief Secretary to give the matter his serious consideration?

Mr. RUSSELL

I will convey the hon. Member's wish to the Chief Secretary.
