HC Deb 24 June 1913 vol 54 cc963-4
36. Mr. FFRENCH

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture if he is aware that the Great Western Railway Company is unable to run a steamer for the conveyance of live stock from the port of Rosslare owing to the restrictions at present operating under the Board of Agriculture; and whether, seeing that only a few years ago Wexford county, that loaded three steamers with live stock weekly, one from Rosslare and two from Wexford, has now only a much more expensive outlet for this trade either through the port of Dublin or Waterford, he will remove those restrictions or modify them or give lairage accommodation for live stock at Fish-guard or elsewhere, so as to enable the Great Western Company to use Rosslare, as intended, for the shipment of live stock?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

No request appears to have been made to the Board for the inclusion of Rosslare in the list of ports from which Irish animals may be shipped to Great Britain. The Board will communicate with the Irish Department on the subject, and if arrangements satisfactory to that Department can be made for the shipment of live stock, the British Board will certainly not raise any objection. An Order has already been made authorising the landing of animals at Fishguard.
