HC Deb 23 June 1913 vol 54 c799
78. Mr. DOUGLAS HALL

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the Second Wessex Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, is to train this year at Lark Hill, Salisbury Plain, without gun practice; and whether, in that event, the brigade will only have had one opportunity of firing in three years, and some of the members of the brigade will have been in it for three years without having seen a shot fired?

The SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Colonel Seely)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative; the reply to the second part is in the negative, as the brigade carried out gun practice at Okehampton last year, when all members of the brigade had the opportunity of taking part.

Mr. DOUGLAS HALL

Will the right hon. Gentleman answer the second part of the question?

Colonel SEELY

That is replied to in what I have said. All members will have an opportunity of taking part.

Mr. DOUGLAS HALL

Is it a fact that there are members of this body who have been three years in the regiment and have never seen a shot fired?

Colonel SEELY

The hon. Gentleman is in error in supposing this brigade did not have an opportunity of practising last year. They did.
