HC Deb 18 June 1913 vol 54 c367
35. Mr. BARNES

asked the President of the Board of Trade, if he has any knowledge as to whether or not the firm of Messrs. Nobel, of Stevenston, Ayrshire, are willing to accept the finding of the Committee as to wages paid in the district of the factory now closed in consequence of a strike; and, if they are willing to accept, can he take any steps to secure resumption of work on that understanding?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Buxton)

I assume that my hon. Friend refers to the inquiry being conducted by the Board of Trade in accordance with the reply given to him by my right hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty on 28th April. The Fair-Wages Clause would be operative in the case of contracts made by Government Departments with the firm. I am afraid that I cannot make any statement on the latter part of the question.
