HC Deb 10 June 1913 vol 53 c1407
9. Colonel BURN

asked the Secretary of State for War what is the number of men in Cavalry and Infantry regiments wanting to complete the Home establishment, the number of undismissed recruits at the present time, and the percentage of reservists required to complete the war establishment of the Cavalry on mobilisation?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Tennant)

On the 1st May last the Cavalry of the Line and Infantry of the Line at home were 123 men and 6,761 men respectively under establishment. The figures for undismissed recruits are not available at the War Office. As regards the last part of the question it is not considered expedient to publish information concerning mobilisation arrangements.

Colonel BURN

Is it not possible for the hon. Gentleman to find out how many undismissed recruits there are on a certain date?

Mr. TENNANT

It would be an arduous labour. It is always a shifting figure.

Colonel BURN

Is there any reason why the House should not know?
