HC Deb 10 June 1913 vol 53 cc1436-7
80. Mr. EDMUND HARVEY

asked whether the attention of the President of the Board of Education has been called to the arrangements made by the Birmingham City Council to provide and promote organised games for children of school age in parks and small recreation grounds within that city; and whether, in view of the results obtained by a small expenditure of money, he will take steps to encourage other local authorities to follow this example?

Mr. PEASE

I am aware of what is being done at Birmingham in the way described in the question. The recent Report of the Departmental Committee upon School Playgrounds, which has been presented to Parliament, deals with this subject in paragraphs 19 and 31, and makes certain recommendations which are in the direction desired by the hon. Member.
