HC Deb 09 June 1913 vol 53 c1243
34. Mr. O'GRADY

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that the employés in the Mint received no pay for the day they were asked to take off work on the King's birthday; and whether, having regard to the fact that Government employés in other Departments received wages for the day mentioned, will the same privilege be extended to the employés at the Mint?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Masterman)

The hon. Member is, I think, under a misapprehension. In accordance with the usual practice the "fixed wage," called subsistence allowance, was paid to all workmen for the King's birthday.
