HC Deb 09 June 1913 vol 53 cc1232-3
11. Mr. ASTOR

asked whether a claim for £79 has been received by the Admiralty in respect of damages sustained by the owner of the ketch "Pass-By," with which His Majesty's ship "Temeraire" collided on 7th March, 1913; whether at the time of the collision the "Pass-By" was practically stationary in a calm sea, and that His Majesty's ship "Temeraire" was the overtaking vessel; whether the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty have refused to make any compensation in respect of such damages; and, if so, whether the matter may receive further consideration?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

A claim has been received as stated, but the Admiralty is unable to admit liability for the collision, as the "Pass-By" did not comply with the Rules 8 and 12 in the Order in Council for the Dockyard Port of Plymouth, when the "Temeraire" sounded a four-blast signal.
