HC Deb 29 July 1913 vol 56 c287
49. Mr. COOPER

asked the Prime Minister whether, by the receipt of copies of resolutions passed by labour organisations, or in any other way, he has been made aware of the existence of serious discontent among the wage-earning classes in this country, especially or. the railways; and, if so, whether the Government is taking any steps to ascertain and, if possible, to remove the cause of the discontent, or whether it is the settled policy of the Government in such matters to postpone intervention until a struggle has actually broken out?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have not received resolutions of the nature stated, but it is a matter of common knowledge that there is much dissatisfaction with existing conditions among the wage-earning classes, and that it finds both individual and organised expression. The matter does not cease, in its various aspects, to engage the attention of the Government.
