HC Deb 17 July 1913 vol 55 cc1430-1
69. Mr. EVELYN CECIL

asked the Postmaster-General when the issue of the superseded inartistic penny stamps with the lion design will be discontinued; and when the remaining denominations of postage stamps with His Majesty's portrait are likely to be issued?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

The Board of Inland Revenue have ceased supplying postmasters with the penny stamps of the lion design since the 3rd instant, and their sale will cease when the small stocks remaining in the hands of postmasters are exhausted. The Board will issue the remaining denominations of the new postage stamps in the course of the next three weeks.

Mr. KING

Are we to conclude from that reply that the Postmaster-General admits the charge that this denomination of stamps was inartistic?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

De gustibus non est disputandum.
