HC Deb 17 July 1913 vol 55 c1428
71. Mr. BRADY

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that there has been delay in furnishing the details of stone-work for the new Government buildings in Merrion Street, Dublin; and that such delay has thrown a number of stonemasons out of employment and postponed the completion of the buildings; and whether he will take steps to secure the early delivery of these details of stone-work?

Mr. MASTERMAN

I think the hon. Member is under a misapprehension. No delay in the delivery of these details has occurred nor is there any danger of delay in the completion of the building from this cause. Stone has been cut and stacked sufficient for the probable progress of the building for six or eight months to come. The building will progress steadily and further stocks of cut stone will be prepared as soon as they are required.

Mr. BRADY

Is it not a fact that the services of a number of stonemasons have been dispensed with in consequence of the details not being furnished?

Mr. MASTERMAN

Not as far as my information goes.

Mr. BRADY

Is it not a fact that they have ceased to be employed?

Mr. MASTERMAN

That I cannot say.

Mr. BRADY

Will the right hon. Gentleman make inquiries?

Mr. MASTERMAN

Certainly.
