§ 24. Mr. WHITEHOUSEasked the hon. Member for St. George's-in-the-East whether he will remove the gilt upon the terminal oak columns of the new staircase to the Terrace as being an unsuitable form of decoration?
§ Mr. WEDGWOOD BENNThe gilding of the newel posts is essentially Gothic in character, and it is intended to give them due value in the general design of the stairs. Examples of this decoration are to be found in furniture of the Tudor period.
