§ 82. Mr. PIRIEasked whether the Financial Secretary's Department stipulated that payment in full of the additional Grants would be made only on the institution of inclusive fees in all four Scottish universities, and on the footing that all fees should be uniform; whether he can state what each university has done in the matter, and what inclusive fee they have adopted for a course in medicine, both university and clinical; and whether the Grants have been, or will be, paid to the respective universities this year?
§ Mr. MASTERMANThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The correspondence with the universities, which will shortly be issued, will show the present position with regard to the institution of inclusive fees by the universities.
§ Mr. MASTERMANAction cannot be taken until after the correspondence has been before the House.
§ Sir HENRY CRAIKIn view of the great inconvenience which is caused, has the right hon. Gentleman made up his mind as to the Treasury claiming a right to interfere in this matter?
§ Mr. MASTERMANI am in consultation with certain men who have a right to be consulted in this matter, but I think the first thing is to get the correspondence before the House.
§ Mr. MASTERMANNext week.
