HC Deb 28 April 1913 vol 52 cc796-7
40. Major HOPE

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether the statement of Sir George M'Crae, speaking in Edinburgh on the 22nd instant on behalf of the Local Government Board, that there had been no want of will on the part of local authorities in dealing with the housing problem, but that financial considerations had tied their hands and stultified endeavour, implies that the Government have reconsidered their recent refusal to support the money Grant proposed in the Housing of the Working Classes Bill?

The PRESIDENT of the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. Burns)

I have seen the report of the speech referred to. I do not think it carries the implication which the hon. and gallant Member seeks to attribute to it.
