HC Deb 28 April 1913 vol 52 c796
42. Mr. BARNES

asked the Postmaster-General if the Post Office authorities at Glasgow are justified in charging a fee for the redirection of letters addressed to business premises which are found to be temporarily closed; and, if so, since when and why the change has been made?

Captain NORTON

The redirection of letters by the Department throws so much work on the Post Office that it is necessary to restrict it as far as possible to householders who have permanently removed. It has been the practice in Glasgow for many years to charge a fee for redirection in the case of persons who, on closing business premises temporarily, are unable to make private arrangements for the forwarding of their letters.
