HC Deb 28 October 1912 vol 43 c18
32. Mr. FALLE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if it is proposed that the new ship laid down at Portsmouth is to be launched within six months, which means gangs working day and night in shifts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.; and, seeing that such hours are too long for the workers and are not calculated to produce the best work, will he consider the advisability of having a regular and steady programme rather than attempt sensational speed records in building?

Mr CHURCHILL

It is not proposed either to launch the new ship referred to in six months or work the hours mentioned.
