HC Deb 17 October 1912 vol 42 cc1413-4
60. Sir A. MARKHAM

asked whether, seeing that ventilators approximately two feet long by ten inches wide are fixed in the side of the Smoking Room walls about eighteen inches from the floor and within eighteen inches of the writing-table chairs, he will say how many cubic feet of air are forced per minute through each of these ventilators and the pressure of the same?

Mr. WEDGWOOD BENN

The First Commissioner is having tests made. He regrets, however, that the results are not yet available, but he will be happy to send the information to my hon. Friend as soon as possible.

Sir A. MARKHAM

Cannot something be done with regard to this question of ventilation? It is impossible for Members to sit in a hurricane of wind blowing about their bodies. Will the hon. Gentleman appoint some Committee to inquire into this question? There is very great dissatisfaction all over the House about it.

Mr. WEDGWOOD BENN

The only reason for a more than usual current of air through the ventilators is that some hon. Members have one open and two shut. That increases the current through the open ventilator. If the hon. Member has any suggestions to make, the First Commissioner will be pleased to consider them.
