HC Deb 16 October 1912 vol 42 cc1225-6
70. Captain CRAIG

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that an action is now pending by the owners of a foreign steamer for damage occasioned by foul berthing in the Royal harbour of Ardglass; and, if such is the case, what is the evidence on which he based the statement that the harbour was in a fit and proper condition for the needs of the local fishermen?

Mr. MASTERMAN

I am informed that a claim has been made for damages alleged to have been sustained by a foreign steamer owing to an unsafe berth in Ardglass Harbour, but that no action has been instituted. The vessel in question was safely berthed under the direction of the harbour master, but was subsequently moved without his authority to another berth not intended for a vessel of her size. I do not think that these facts are inconsistent with the statement that the harbour is not in a bad condition, but, as I informed the hon. and gallant Member last Thursday, I shall be ready to consider any representations made to me on that point.
