HC Deb 28 November 1912 vol 44 cc1468-9
31. Mr. J. P. FARRELL

asked the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture (Ireland) whether, in view of the fact that no fresh case of foot-and-mouth disease has occurred in the Mullingar disrict, and that in consequence of the Westmeath Diseases of Animals Order the Edgeworthstown November fair was de- stroyed, he will, with a view to allowing the Christmas fair of Edgeworthstown to be held, contract the present radius for many cattle to a ten-mile instead of a fifteen-mile limit, thus allowing the people of county Longford, where there is no disease, to have the usual Christmas fair at Edgeworthstown?

Mr. RUSSELL

The question of contracting the scheduled district referred to is under consideration. If no unfavourable circumstances should arise, it is expected that it will be practicable to arrange for the holding of the usual fair at Edgeworthstown on 18th December.

Mr. FARRELL

Will that include timely notice?

Mr. RUSSELL

Yes, Sir.
