asked the Under-Secretary of State for India the number of Indian rupees that have been coined during the last five years; the amount of profit accruing to the Indian Government ox the Imperial Government by such coinage; and the use to which the profit is put?

In the five years ending 31st October, 1912, about 668 lakhs of rupees were coined. The profits were about 201 lakhs, which were added to the Gold Standard Reserve, except that about 35 lakhs were used for capital expenditure on railways, in accordance with a recommendation of the Railway Finance Committee of 1907–8.
