HC Deb 26 November 1912 vol 44 c982
5. Colonel YATE

asked whether officers of the Indian Army and officers of the Royal Engineers serving with Indian units in India are debarred from getting any rewards for passing the lower standard and higher standard examinations in Persian, and that officers of British regiments serving in India are eligible for these rewards; and, if so, what is the reason for this distinction having been made between the Indian Service and the British Service in India?

Mr. BAKER

The effect of certain recent Amendments to India Army Regulations would appear to be as stated in the question. The reason for this differentiation between the two Services is not known to the Secretary of State. An inquiry has been addressed to the Government of India on the subject.
