HC Deb 25 November 1912 vol 44 c823
93. Mr. STANIER

asked the President of the Board of Education, if he has received a petition from Mrs. Brade, of Newcastle-under-Lyme, asking if lie will sanction and authorise the payment by the governors of the endowed school of an annual sum of money for her life in consideration of the forty-three years' faithful service of her late husband; and, if so, will he say what answer he has given?

The PRESIDENT Of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. J. A. Pease)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. With regard to the second part, the Board have no power to authorise the grant of a pension or gratuity to Mrs. Brade, except upon the application of the governing body of Newcastle-under-Lyme Middle School, and then only if the grant is shown to be for the benefit of the foundation. It appears from Mrs. Brade's petition that the governing body of the school have decided not to make an application to the Board, and the Board are therefore not in a position to consider the matter. Mrs. Brade has been informed of the position of the Board in the matter.
