HC Deb 21 November 1912 vol 44 cc471-2
58. Lord HENRY CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

asked, in view of the fact that last April consideration was being given to the question of the removal of children of school age from Bromsgrove Workhouse, or proper accommodation being provided for infants within, and adequate fire exits being provided from the same workhouse, whether the school children have yet been removed, proper provision made for infants, and for staircases for use in case of fire; and the date when the Local Government Board first asked the Bromsgrove guardians to attend to these matters?

Mr. LEWIS

The representations made by the Local Government Board to the Guardians in "this matter, either by correspondence or through the inspector for the district, extend over a period of some years. I addressed a letter to the guardians on the 24th September last, intimating that the matter could no longer be allowed to remain in abeyance. The subject has been under consideration by the guardians, but in the absence of a definite scheme to make provision for the children. I propose to take further steps at an early date.
