HC Deb 21 November 1912 vol 44 c480
81. Mr. POINTER

asked the Secretary to the Treasury if he can state on what grounds the National Insurance Commissioners have allowed the Sheffield Masters' Rating and Taxing Association and the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce to establish a central office for the workshop approved societies in Sheffield and Birmingham; and whether he is aware that the consent of the members of those societies, who will have to bear the cost of these central offices, has not been obtained?

Mr. MASTERMAN

I am not aware that such a central office has been established. Under their rules each of the Sheffield and Birmingham approved societies has its own offices, which could not be changed without an amendment of rules being duly submitted to the Commissioners and subsequently passed by the society. No such amendment has been submitted, and no proposal for a central office has reached the Commission.

Mr. POINTER

Seeing that the secretaries of the societies are complaining that this has actually been done, will the right hon. Gentleman cause further inquiry to be made?

Mr. MASTERMAN

I have given the answer on the facts as supplied to me. I will certainly inquire further.
