§ 49. Mr. CHARLES BATHURSTasked whether, under the Government of Ireland Bill, it will be open to all or any Irish peers to vote at elections for the Irish House of Commons; and, if not, what reason there is, in the absence of an hereditary Second Chamber, for their disfranchisement?
§ The PRIME MINISTERIrish peers will not be entitled to vote for Members of the Irish House of Commons unless the Trish Parliament empowers them to do so under Clause 9 (3) of the Bill. The Bill does not disfranchise them, as it leaves untouched their existing power of voting for representative peers in the House of Lords.
§ Mr. C. BATHURSTIs it not a fact that Irish peers in fact will be disfranchised as regards all matters of internal government?
§ The PRIME MINISTERAs English peers are now.
