HC Deb 20 November 1912 vol 44 cc267-8
5. Major ARCHER-SHEE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty, if His Majesty's ship "Pegasus" is on her way home to be commissioned for service on the Cape of Good Hope station in relief of His Majesty's ship "Pandora"; and whether he has recently received any adverse reports upon the condition of the hull, boilers, or machinery of either or both of these ships?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, but it will, of course, be understood that if after examination in England it appears that her condition is unsatisfactory, the orders for her to proceed to the Cape would be reconsidered. The usual periodical tests have been carried out in both ships and show that a certain number of their boiler tubes will require renewal, but no adverse reports have been received upon the hull or machinery of either ship.
